Tana Toraja to Tentena Private Driver: Lake Poso Overland Journey

Traveling from the Toraja highlands to Lake Poso in Central Sulawesi is one of the most scenic overland routes in Indonesia. With a private driver, you can take your time, stop for photos, and travel safely on this remote mountain road.

The Route: What to Expect

The drive from Rantepao (Tana Toraja) to Tentena (Lake Poso) is approximately 250 kilometers. It takes between 9 to 11 hours depending on road conditions. This is a long, winding mountain route through Central Sulawesi.

Many travelers prefer to split this journey over two days. A common plan is to drive from Toraja to a small town like Pendolo or Poso, stay overnight, and continue to Tentena the next morning.

  • Distance: ~250 km
  • Travel Time: 9–11 hours (often split over 2 days)

  • Siuri Beach: A calm lakeside beach area, perfect for relaxing.
  • Bada Valley: A remote valley known for its ancient megalithic stone statues. A long day trip from Tentena.

One-Way vs. Round Trip

Most guests book this route as a one-way overland journey to Lake Poso, and then continue onward to Ampana (for the Togean Islands) or return to Makassar. If you want to return with the same driver, we can arrange a round trip.
